Clouds reflected in a pool. This narrow canyon is near one of our campsites on the Navajo Sandstone. |

The Anasazi lived in the Escalante area until about 900 years ago, when they mysteriously left, perhaps due to an extended drought. We see evidence of these ancient people on our hikes, including petroglyphs (drawings carved into rock walls), like those shown at left. |

Alison Reitz (right) on the slickrock with participant Edrie. Alison is Cloud Canyon's director and head guide. She's been exploring this country for twenty years. |

Steph has been on five Cloud Canyon trips! She has just hiked up out of the creek canyon seen behind her, where we camped the night before. |

A Cloud Canyon group gathered around the stove at dinnertime. We're camped on a sand bar along the Escalante River, in Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. |
